Credé - Organic Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
Extra-virgin olive oil has long been used in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines. Cold-pressed oils have seen a global increase in popularity owing to their claimed health benefits.
28-year study confirms the health benefits of olive oil
The results of a 28-year study on dietary fats have just been published in the 11 January issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (Vol. 79, No. 2, January 2022).
Researchers studied more than 90 000 nurses and health professionals from 1990 and found that the use of olive oil instead of margarine, butter, mayonnaise and dairy fats led to an 8% to 34% lower risk of both total and cause-specific mortality.
This is what a higher intake of olive oil can do for us:
- a 17% lower risk of cancer mortality
- an 18% lower risk of respiratory disease mortality
- a 19% lower risk of cardiovascular disease mortality
- a staggering 29% lower risk of dying from neurodegenerative disease.
When buying olive oil, always opt for certified organic extra-virgin, cold-pressed olive oil in glass containers. These cold-pressed oils have a distinct spicy taste and green colour, which distinguishes them from their more common and cheaper cousin – refined olive oil. Extra-virgin oil is obtained from the flesh of the olive fruit.
