Not keen on vegetables? DNA-Veggies to the rescue

Fabulous DNA-VEGGIES contains concentrated extracts from plants, vegetables and fruits. All ingredients are non-GMO, organically grown, and extracted in such a way that the integrity of each plant is preserved. The formula contains extracts of 13 different fruits, vegetables and other plant foods that are carefully selected for their unique composition. Together they cover a wide range of vitamins, minerals,  antioxidants and phytochemicals necessary for optimal health.

Here’s what you get

Carrots are good sources of fibre, beta carotene, vitamin C, certain B vitamins, vitamin K and mineral such as potassium and manganese. Beta carotene is converted into vitamin A. A vitamin A deficiency may result in poor eyesight, skin problems and a weak immune system.

Amla is exceptionally high in vitamin C and contains meaningful quantities of iron, chromium, zinc and copper.  Amla contains free-radical fighting ellagitannins as well as the plant phytochemicals flavonoids, kaempferol, ellagic acid and gallic acid. Amla is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties.

Shiitake mushrooms contain powerful immune-supporting compounds such as beta-glucans and vitamin D2. Sterols in these mushrooms help support healthy cholesterol levels and may promote cardiovascular health.

Spirulina is a rich source of complete protein, nucleic acids, lipids, essential fatty acids such as gamma-linolenic acid and complex carbohydrates like polysaccharides. It contains the antioxidant compounds phycocyanin, chlorophyll and carotenoids (alpha, beta and gamma carotene, and zeaxanthin). Spirulina is also rich in minerals and is one of a few plant sources of vitamin B12.

Natto is a unique Japanese food made of fermented soy. It is regarded as the richest food source of vitamin K2, specifically MK-7, the type of menaquinone which has been shown to benefit bone health most. Vitamin K2 promotes cardiovascular health by reducing calcification and stiffening of arteries. It ensures that calcium ends up in the bones rather than in our soft tissues.

Kale is hailed as one of the most nutrient-dense foods available. It is a rich source of vitamins (including vitamin B12), minerals, fibre, omega fats, carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin) and, flavonoids like kaempferol and quercetin. Kale is rich in indole-3-carbinol and sulforaphane. These powerful compounds are currently in the spotlight for their detoxification and free-radical scavenging properties.

Peas are rich in protein, vitamins and minerals. They contain all nine essential amino acids that make up protein.  Peas are highly protective. They contain phytochemicals such as flavanols (catechin and epicatechin), phenolic acids (caffeic, ferulic and ellagic acids), carotenoids (alpha- and beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin), saponins, coumetarol and β-sitosterol. The benefits of these phytochemicals include fighting free radical damage, balancing the immune system and protecting the cardiovascular system, to name a few.

Spinach is a very good source of vitamins and minerals. It is a very good source of free radical scavenging carotenoids (beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin), anti-inflammatory flavonoids (kaempferol and quercetin), vitamins and minerals. Spinach is rich in fibre and protein. It contains vitamin B12.

Avocado is rich in stress-busting and anti-inflammatory vitamin B5 as well as vitamin B6, vitamin K1, vitamin C, vitamin E and folate. Avocado also contains minerals such as potassium for balanced blood pressure and muscle control as well as carotenoids, especially lutein, zeaxanthin and beta-carotene that are important for eye health.

Broccoli. This cruciferous vegetable is packed with phytochemicals that include glucobrassicin, the carotenoids lutein, zeaxanthin and beta-carotene, and the flavonoid kaempferol. Broccoli also contains glucoraphanin (the precursor to sulforaphane) and indole-3-carbinol. These compounds have detoxifying properties and may protect us against cancer. Broccoli is rich in folate, calcium, potassium, vitamin C and vitamin B6.

Pumpkin seed powder. These nutrient-dense seeds are excellent sources of vitamins, such as biotin, and minerals such as zinc and magnesium. They contain free radical scavenging and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients like squalene, vitamin E and carotenoids. Pumpkin seeds are rich in healthy fatty acids like omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9. They are good sources of fibre and protein, making them the ideal snack for those with blood sugar problems. Phytosterols in pumpkin seeds have positive effects on blood cholesterol levels and may promote prostate health. Pumpkin seeds have anti-parasitic properties and can therefore be included in deworming programmes.  Owing to their tryptophan content, chewing on a few pumpkin seeds before bedtime may help us sleep better.

Beetroot is renowned for its high nitrate content. Our bodies transform dietary nitrate in the blood into nitric oxide. This gas is a vasodilator that may assist with high blood pressure, poor memory and erectile dysfunction. It may also promote stamina and exercise performance.  Beetroot promotes liver cleansing and may stimulate lymphatic drainage. It is a rich source of betacyanins and cancer-preventing phenolic compounds such as flavonoids, phenolic acids and phenolic amides.
